This is lovely QoQ Xxx ♥
The use of textures for the scales is really great and it's really clear that they're dragons Xxxx
One thing you could improve on is your shading, but apart from that this is a beautiful piece. well done ^^
I think the detailing in the creatures, which was very strong in the original continued into this piece. The shading in the spikes, the scale texture in the skin, it all works very well. My only critique here would be that some of the line art in the spikes and horns doesn't seem to be are sharp as others. For example, in right creature's horns, some of the spikes seem to be very pointy where others are dull. Consistency is a good thing to aim for with such small details.
I also like the addition of the background. The strong blues are really powerful and the sun between them really sets a good vibe. And the clouds are wonderful. The look soft and fluffy, as all clouds should! I think the hint of a palm tree on the right side looks a little off to me. The rest of the background is pleasantly blurred, which really puts the focus on the creatures, whereas the tree is in full focus, and thus distracts. I really like how you've cropped the background, but have also gone outside of the box. It's nice that it doesn't limiting you, and I like the butterflies with their sparkles outside.
The one thing that I liked better in the original that didn't carry over to this as the actual positing of the creatures. The pressing of their foreheads together in the original was such a powerful gesture and I thought that it really worked well to show how close they were together. I think that there was more feeling in that then just the pressing of their muzzles together.
The focus of the drawing is the "couple" which draws me into the scene that is taking place whereas I have seen drawings with backgrounds that are very clear and bold, these aren't good most of the time because they draw the attention of the eyes to the background not foreground.
I like the technique that you have used where the focus is actually placed over the background as if they are on the inside of a window. This causes interest in the viewer because it gives a point of view that most would deem as unexpected.
I like the way you have given the faces a smooth, almost human, texture which causes emotion in the viewer as he can feel more comfortable imagining it, but you have made the necks scaly which gives a sense of realism and actuality, this causes the watcher to be pleased with the effect as it agrees with what they are used to, so they do not reject the idea.
I hope this critique will have helped you with further pieces of artwork.
Greatest Wishes, Darkcyndr
